Perfect Guy, Perfect Date

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

Before this weekend, I did not think I would ever have a "picture perfect" first date. I didn’t even know what a perfect date was until I experienced it! Now I will not accept anything less.

I met this handsome specimen on a dating app I was trying out. I wasn’t really thinking I would actually meet someone. I liked his profile, and he messaged me soon afterward. His approach was sweet and respectful. He complimented my smile, eyes, and lips all in one sentence. I took the bait and messaged him back.

And then things were off! We were messaging quite frequently on the dating app, and it was clear we were vibing, so he gave me his number. We talked every day, all day. You could tell he was genuinely trying to get to know me. He was so caring and sweet. it was so new to me but SO refreshing.

We had been communicating for almost 2 weeks and things were still going great. I’m usually one to let the guy take the lead on things, so I was waiting for him to bring up setting up a date. But he was taking too long and I was getting impatient, so me being who I am, I asked when I was going to be able to finally meet him. Maybe I should have waited a few hours longer because he said he was just about to ask me if I wanted to do dinner and a movie. LOL…

I was BEYOND excited, ya’ll. We scheduled the date for Saturday, but it was only Tuesday! I had to wait 3 whole days before the date!! I was already trying to figure out what I was going to wear and everything! I was excited and anxious to see if our connection would still be there when we actually met. Sometimes you can have a connection on paper or through text, but when you get together, the conversation is dry. So I was nerv-cited (nervous but excited).

Thursday comes and the excitement is still there. With the help of some coworkers at work, I narrowed it down to 3 outfit choices. On my way home that day after work, I get into a car accident with some dumbass who doesn’t know to stop at a blinking red light! The police towed my car, and I ended up going to jail that night. I’ll dive deeper into that story another day. But I was so nervous I was going to miss my date. Not only that I hadn’t texted my date for hours, what if he thought I ghosted him?! I was able to finally text him around 4 the next day. He had been worried about me.

After the horrible night I had, I was so ready for my date…

Saturday had arrived, and my date wasn't until 5 p.m., so I still had time to wait. Normally, when I have a date, I start to get nervous as the time approaches, but not this time; only excitement filled my body.He tells me he’ll be picking me up at 4:30, so I start getting ready at like 3:40ish. I was ready at exactly 4:30. LOL

He shows up about 5 minutes later. I walk out to his car and he hops right out, greets me with a hug and grabs my door for me. You wouldn't believe how uncommon this is; men rarely open doors for women anymore, so I was already impressed. We drive off and head to the movie theater.

We arrive, go in, and stop at the concession to grab drinks. Go to our seats, get comfy and prepare to enjoy the movie. I make it a point to lean in close to him to show him I’m enjoying his company so far. The movie wraps and we head out to dinner.

It had snowed a little by then, so he offers his arm when we walk outside, so I don’t slip. The restaurant was down the street from the movie theater, so the ride wasn’t long. We both love Mexican food, so we went to a Mexican restaurant. The conversation is amazing during dinner. Things were flowing so smoothly. We laughed non-stop. We continued talking after the bill was paid and totally forgot it was time to go!

I was kind of bummed because I was sure the date was over. But then he asked if I wanted to chill at his house. In my mind, I was like, "uhhhh, duh." That's how safe he made me feel. I was glad the night wasn’t quite over yet.

We go into his apartment and decide on a movie to watch. We sat on his couch, cuddled up, and talked through both movies. After hours of talking and laughing, we finally look at the clock to see it's 2:30am! I personally could have stayed all night and talked, but I respected his wanting to get me home safely.

We got in his car to leave, and he gently grabs my chin and pulls me in for a kiss. It was so gentle and sweet, it was perfect. He walks me to my door, gives me one more kiss goodnight and a hug. He was such a gentleman and so sweet!

No, my date wasn’t extravagant or anything outrageous. It was simple but so perfect. Even now, as I type this,I’m smiling from ear to ear!

Good guys do exist!
